Immaculate Heart College

Welcome to Immaculate Heart College!

Immaculate Heart College was opened in 2012 by Archbishop Hickey and continues to grow rapidly each year. IHC seeks to be a school where an authentic transmission of the Catholic faith is presented and all students have the right to feel loved, included and respected in what is a very unique and beautiful learning environment.

The school is located in the idyllic setting of Lower Chittering, surrounded by a peaceful and harmonious natural environment. The outlook to the grassed play areas and oval, as well as to the surrounding pastures and hills is second to none.

This year, our Head of Theology introduced the youth group Cor Mariae which is available to students in Years 7 to 12. The College continues to offer a diverse range of extra-curricular activities including Lego, Soccer, Band, Art and Motorbike Mechanical Club. Our students have access to peripatetic (instrumental) music tuition, Languages Education in Latin and Greek, as well as competitive netball.

2023 will see the introduction of onsite care (before, after and vacation Care).

Our Mission

The College strives for excellence in academic and religious studies, as well as in social development and physical fitness programs. In this way, it will enable its students to become fine Catholic citizens and leaders in Australian society. Parents will also be closely involved in the College by their participation in regular talks on academic matters, aspects of the faith, and parenting skills.

The College’s staff will keep in close contact with parents and will mentor individual students throughout their education so that the students will be given the best possible means to develop holistically.

Early Learning

Our Early Learning classes provide opportunities for children to grow and challenge themselves through play and hands-on learning experiences. Our programs are designed around the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Western Australian Curriculum. The children’s social and emotional development is nurtured, as they begin to experience school life.

Our Pre-Kindergarten (3 year-old program) runs on Mondays and Thursdays. The Kindergarten program operates three days a week and operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The EYLF guides our practice as we facilitate engaging play-based learning experiences. The children are supported to develop key skills and knowledge through experiences created around their interests and current understandings.

Primary and Secondary Education

In the Primary School we have excellent staff who, alongside our supportive parent body, help enhance the exciting opportunities in learning. Immaculate Heart College provides a comprehensive and holistic education in all Learning Areas, providing and tailoring learning opportunities for all children in order to ensure they are able to achieve their full potential.

At Immaculate Heart College, Years 7 to 10 are all about transition. Students are going from primary school to secondary school; from young boys and girls to young men and women. Our curriculum is designed to support students as they go through this period of change. There is a breadth of academic activities to engage students in their learning and enable them to explore a diversity of offerings. Students in Years 7 and 8 are exposed to the different areas through year-long rotations. Students in Years 9 and 10 have the opportunity to contribute to the content of their own timetables by selecting from elective subjects. This allows students to make decisions on future subject selections based on their own experiences and interests as they head into Years 11 and 12.

We are currently taking enrolments for Years 7 to 12.

Theology Studies

The Catholic Faith is taught to all Year Groups, between 2 and 4 periods a week, depending on age. Students also celebrate a weekly Mass with the College Priest. A Catholic Theology Curriculum providing an authentic expression of Catholic Teaching and a Virtues Program permeate the day-to-day practice and ethos of the College. Students are presented with the saving message of Jesus Christ and are invited to live out the Gospel with the entire College Community. The virtue of respect pervades all areas of student behaviour. Furthermore, key Feast Days of the Liturgical Calendar are observed and celebrated during the year.

Music/Performing Arts/Sports

Music Specialists, Mrs Liz Leith and Ms Bernadine Bourke, provide Curriculum Music classes to all students from Pre-primary to Year 7, with elective classes for students in the upper years (to Year 10). In addition to these timetabled classes, students are welcome to sign up for private classes, with a wide range of instruments available to choose from. Classes can be individual, or paired, and an Instrument Rental Plan is also available.

The IHC Physical Education Program is in full flight and jam-packed with in-house and community events to better enrich the lives of our students. The ultimate goal is to provide fun, challenging and engaging experiences within the sport, leisure and recreational settings that will encourage students to make lifelong commitments to active lifestyles. The early childhood years have a large focus on fundamental movement skills, whilst early adolescence sees modified games and the secondary students learn about invasion, net/wall/court games, striking sports and target activities.

We participate in inter-school competitions in Cross Country, swimming and athletics. The College has also entered the Saddles Plus Equestrian WA Interschool State Championships for two years in a row. These additional events provide students in all year groups the opportunity to test and demonstrate their skills in the specialist sporting arenas.
