At Fahan School, we endeavour to build the futures of our students; developing their sense of confidence, individual responsibility and leadership across all facets of life.
Through innovative teaching, a strong school community and a contemporary mindset, Fahan School strives to equip each student with the skills needed to succeed in a changing world. Our girls are encouraged to become socially conscious, constructively critical and empowered women who possess the ability to make their own informed and thoughtful decisions in adult life.
Situated in Sandy Bay, Hobart, Tasmania, Fahan School is small enough to provide each student with personal, consistent care, yet large enough to provide a big future and boast impressive state-of-the-art resources, modern facilities and an extensive curriculum.
The School is an independent day and boarding school for girls from Pre-Kinder to Year 12. Fahan School is non-denominational with a Christian ethos.
Although Fahan School is non-selective, Fahan students consistently perform above the State and National average in standardised literacy and numeracy tests.
In recent years nearly 30% of Year 12 Fahan School students have achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of Australian students.
Of these Year 12 students, 40% had scores of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of Australian students while over 60% achieved scores of 80 or above placing them in the top 20% of Australian students.
In 2012, 2013 and 2014 the Australian newspaper listed Fahan School as the top school in Tasmania.
In 2014, 97 % of our Year 12 girls qualified for university entrance while, of these, 70% achieved ATAR score of above 90. This continues the Fahan tradition of excellence.
The small, non-selective nature of Fahan School makes these results even more outstanding. The exceptional academic results achieved by Fahan girls gives them access to the best universities and colleges in the world. This academic record is the foundation of excellence upon which the School has built its reputation for offering leading education for girls in Tasmania for over 80 years.
From great team and individual sports to performance opportunities and community service Ė there is always a lot happening beyond the classroom at Fahan School.
Fahan School provides a rich and extensive co-curricular program for all of our students, enhancing their life at school and broadening their opportunities. These activities allow students to get out of the classroom and to experience things that are fresh, enjoyable and beneficial to their overall learning.
With over 90 percent of our students, from Kindergarten to Year 12, participating in at least one co-curricular activity is testament to the offering at Fahan School. Your daughter can choose to take part in Sport, Music, Visual Arts, Debating, Public Speaking, Performing Arts, Student Leadership and Exchange Programs and Trips.
Co-curricular opportunities supplement the core curriculum and contribute not only to Fahanís proud academic tradition, but also to the personal growth and development of each of our students.
For students who need to live away from home to attend school, Fahan School can provide a safe and stimulating environment within its Boarding House, Nateby. There are short term and full-time boarding options available for students in Years 5 to 12.
Students in Years 5-10 live in Nateby, a stately residence from when Fahan School first opened, which offers inviting dormitory style accommodation and a friendly environment with home cooked meals. The Senior Boarding Residence caters for Year 11 and 12 girls with individual accommodation and the latest modern conveniences including wireless internet and reverse-cycle air-conditioning.
Students living in the Boarding House come from around Tasmania, mainland Australia and also from several overseas countries.
During term, domestic and international boarding students are offered the chance to take part in organised activities around Tasmania during weekends. International boarding students have the opportunity to stay with a host family during the term holidays if they are not returning home.
At Fahan School we foster a culture of care and support. Our unique size means that special bonds are developed with both peers and teachers, helping every girl feel like a valued member of the Fahan community.
Fahan School operates a number of programs that are designed to create a safe and nurturing school environment.
Fahanís own Big Sister, Little Sister program has been in operation for several decades. The program is designed to facilitate positive student relationships and interaction across all year levels, from Kindergarten to Year 12.
In 2011 the Big Sister, Little Sister program amalgamated with the Alannah and Madeline Foundationís Better Buddies program. The Alannah and Madeline Foundation approached Fahan School to become a Better Buddies school, a great honour as ordinarily schools are required to apply. The offer to join stemmed from Fahanís existing buddy programs and also their award-winning work on an anti-cyberbullying campaign video, which is now shown by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation in schools throughout Australia.
In addition to these programs, the day-to-day structure of life at Fahan is designed to ensure the wellbeing of all students. Everyone at Fahan School is charged with a responsibility of care, not just our teaching staff and student leaders. This means that Fahan girls develop a sense of responsibility and respect for each other, for their teachers, their parents and families and in the wider community.
Fahan School is spread across one sprawling 6.2-hectare campus in the attractive Hobart suburb of Sandy Bay Ė just a ten-minute drive from Hobartís Central Business District.
Situated on the banks of the River Derwent and hidden from the view of the main road, the Schoolís blend of historic and award-winning modern buildings, coupled with the outstanding gardens and grounds, create an inspiring, nurturing and secure environment where your daughter can study and make friends.
The single campus advantage means that our youngest through to our oldest students learn together in one caring community.
