Welcome to Macquarie College

Established in 1901, Macquarie College is a leading Christian school that strives to provide students with an educational environment, where a sense of purpose, meaning and value is fundamental to the learning experience.

Macquarie College prides itself on:
• Promoting the holistic development of young people
• Providing a disciplined, high performing academic environment
• Recognising the unique qualities and learning potential of all students
• Facilitating opportunities to serve the needs of others
• Helping students make quality decisions for life.

Excellence in Academia

The Academic and Development program at Macquarie College starts at Prep, and is designed to prepare children for school life, to care for their early developmental needs, and to provide an enriching program in a caring Christian environment. The skills built upon in the Early Years Program provide a strong foundation for the Junior School curriculum.

All Junior school students are encouraged to explore, strive for, and achieve their potential, as well as widen their interests and abilities through the Differentiated Curriculum as well as the Enrichment and Extension Program. The academic curriculum incorporates both strong core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Society and Its Environment, Health and Physical Education, in addition to Technology the Creative Arts.

In the Senior school curriculum Macquarie College aims to curate an enriching program featuring many academic opportunities, including English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, and Computer Competitions, as well as debating, public speaking and Mock Trials.

Through its senior academic program, Macquarie College aims to foster the skills of motivation, time management, and personal responsibility, necessary for independent learning.

The Senior School has a relationship with a range of external professional organisations and tertiary institutions.

All staff from Pre-School to Year 12 are highly qualified in their chosen field, and work with the school to provide individualised academic counselling for all students.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is a vital feature of the Macquarie College. There are two chaplains in the Junior School, who administer weekly lessons for each class, which combine prayer, music and drama, film and guest speaker presentations to make each session relevant to students.

A fully qualified school counsellor is available to see children when a request or a referral is made by a teacher or a parent. The counsellor is also involved in the Personal Development area of the curriculum and can work in the classroom with the classroom teacher when a specific need has been identified.

The Career Guidance program of the College places considerable emphasis on preparing and guiding students in their professional and vocational choices. As prospective leaders in the community, students are encouraged to recognise the value and dignity of work, responsibility, reliability, initiative, and enterprise.

Performing Arts and Music

The Performing Arts program is an integral part of Macquarie College, in both Junior and Senior School. There are a number of extra-curricular opportunities available for students interested in the Performing Arts, including Choirs and Vocal Ensembles, Concert Band, Stage Band, Chapel Band, and a regular school Musical.

In addition, the Music Department provides tuition for musically inclined students in the Alto sax, Tenor Sax, Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Tuba.

Each year, approximately 80 students participate in Macquarie College’s annual Senior School Performing Arts Camp.

Excellent Sporting Program

Macquarie College offers outstanding sporting programs giving students opportunities for selection to Regional, State and National levels.

Macquarie College utilises an integrated approach to sport, where all sport classes are conducted by trained PE specialists. Students have the opportunity to compete in Athletics, Basketball, Cross Country, Equestrian, Golf, Netball, Tennis, Touch Football, Triathlon, Soccer, and Softball.

Scholarships

The Macquarie Scholarship Program is designed to recognise the talents, skills and outstanding attributes of students, to foster their development, and to provide tangible support through their education experience. Scholarships are made available for Academic, Merit, Sport and Music, and awarded based on student’s achievement in their chosen field.
