Our Students

Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus students rank among the best in NSW. The Campus offers all Higher School Certificate courses at the highest levels and provides students with opportunities to accelerate in various courses. They regularly achieve HSC merit list placement, awards for all round excellence and entry to competitive university courses.

In addition, students are encouraged to develop into well-rounded individuals who take an active interest in the world around them Teachers are specially trained in appropriate strategies for teaching gifted and talented students. Personal best is pursued through creative and critical thinking, encouragement of self reflection and detailed study skills programs. Student wellbeing is nurtured through stimulation, engagement and support.

Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus Students give back to the community in many ways including the extensive music program, drama, the campus musical, debating, chess, mentoring, competitive and recreational sport, leadership development and college activities. Curriculum

The most demanding HSC courses and levels of study are offered within the Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus campus catering for individual choice and need. Students can undertake accelerated courses in mathematics, specialised language courses through The Open High School and courses through other campuses.

The middle school curriculum at Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus promotes relevance, flexibility and excellence. Students work collaboratively or individually on higher order tasks including problem solving, engaging them with their immediate world. Quality technology is readily available and is constantly upgraded to support varied learning styles.

The co-curricular program includes award winning concert and stage bands, jazz, string and vocal ensembles. Students at Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus can perform in the dance or drama ensembles and the college rock eisteddfod, join the campus musical or the outdoor music festival, develop the school magazine, participate in debating, public speaking and mock trials and chess and other academic and community competitions. Overseas travel develops language and music skills. Achievement of personal best in sport, both competitive and recreational, is encouraged through gala days, coaching clinics, and participation in carnivals.

Giving Back to the Community

Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus pursues its goal of making all students well-rounded and socially aware. Participation in school life and the wider community develops personal esteem and social responsibility. Student voice is recognised and cultivated through leadership programs, the Student Representative Council and special projects such as Social Responsibility and environment activities. The SRC conducts regular assemblies, supports charities and promotes skills of advocacy, negotiation and collaboration. Community voice is heard and respected through an active P&C, various committees and regular information evenings. Parent involvement is welcome.

Manly Music

Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective Campus has a rich and varied extra curricular music program which provides many opportunities for students to pursue their musical interests and abilities. There are many opportunities for performance including overseas tours.

The band program is organised into four streams:

• concert bands
• stage bands
• improvisation
• strings

The concert stream has three bands, graded from lowest to highest as Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Wind Orchestra. In the stage band stream, the corresponding grades are the Stage Band, Big Band and Jazz Orchestra. In the improvisation stream, the S-Jazz and I-Jazz are performance groups and the ImproShop introduces students to the world of improvisation. The Chamber String Ensemble is a stream in its own right.
