About Fahan School

Fahan School is an independent day and boarding school for girls from Kindergarten to Year 12.

At Fahan School our purpose is to prepare and educate your daughter so that she may achieve her full potential and become a woman who has an impact on the world.

Fahan girls are distinctive. They are girls who display individuality, curiosity, compassion, integrity, dedication and resilience. They are encouraged to become women who have an impact on the world and who fulfil every promise of their future.

Fahan offers a rich educational experience for your daughter and a supportive community to which your family can belong. Staff members are dedicated to ensuring that each individual girl feels welcome and that she is striving to be her best.

The Fahan Community is involved, connected and engaged. The School maintains a strong relationship with all its members, present and past students, parents and teachers. Each girl is celebrated long after her graduation from Fahan School.

Outstanding Academic Results

Fahan’s Year 12 girls have achieved the highest percentage of students successful in gaining ATARs of any school in the Tasmania, based on TQA figures over the last eleven years. The School consistently achieves one of the highest mean ATAR scores in Tasmania.

Fahan is non-selective in admitting students and accepts, nurtures, respects and celebrates every individual – therefore, it caters for every student’s learning style. A diverse range of subjects and educational experiences is offered to meet the needs of all students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The School has a strong commitment to smaller class sizes and a supportive environment, which allows for the development of a special bond between each student and both her peers and teachers. There is a sense of belonging to an inclusive school community where every student’s strengths and abilities are acknowledged and developed.

At Fahan, every girl is encouraged to maintain a balance between intellectual, physical and cultural pursuits, as well as a commitment to community service and the development of leadership skills.

Exciting Co-Curricular Program

At Fahan we take advantage of our proximity to the water, making the most of water-based sports including sailing, rowing and surfing as well as using our environment to inspire creativity, with spectacular views from our Visual Arts Studio and Music School.

The Arts Program at Fahan aims to challenge, excite and inspire girls to build their confidence and develop their abilities in the Visual Arts, Music and Drama. Our Art teachers are practicing artists and bring a wealth of knowledge to both the curricular and extra-curricular programs. An Artist in Residence supports students in both the Junior and Senior schools. In Music, we aim to develop and maintain your daughter’s interest through the classroom curriculum, individual lessons, School concerts, House Music, excursions and guest artists. The many opportunities and possibilities of drama and the performing arts are available through performance activities including large-scale productions and musicals, entry into eisteddfods, or being part of the School’s production crew.

Fahan’s extensive sporting facilities include a modern gymnasium outfitted with the latest sports equipment and a specialised sports training facility, a sports classroom, multi-purpose courts and grass playing fields. Your daughter will have the opportunity to represent Fahan in a variety of sports at a level that suits her.

Fahan has a focus on integrating the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in a cohesive way. There is a strong emphasis on engaging girls through projects and our smaller classes allow for this to happen regularly.

Student Wellbeing

At Fahan we foster a culture of care and support. Our size means that special bonds are developed with both peers and teachers, helping every girl to feel like a valued member of the Fahan Community.

Your daughter will spend the majority of her waking hours at school so it is very important that she feels safe, cared for and happy. Fahan's Student Wellbeing Program provides a stable foundation for the social, emotional and intellectual growth of students and is an integral part of life at Fahan School for students from Kinder right through to Year 12.

Fahan is committed to teaching; modelling and building behavioural practices that support not only the physical health of young people but also their personal wellbeing. Everyone is charged with the responsibility care, not just our teaching staff and student leaders. This means that the girls develop a sense of responsibility and respect in their relationships with each other, their teachers, their parents and families and in the wider community. We aim to ensure that every member of the Fahan Community wil be treated fairly, with respect and with compassion.

Location and Transport

From the picturesque campus and historic buildings, to state-of-the-art modern facilities, Fahan is equipped to offer your daughter the best start in life.

The School is conveniently located in the suburb of Sandy Bay, known for its secure family environment and well-kept leafy streets, just six kilometres from Hobart's Central Business District. There are a variety of transport options available to ensure your daughter travels safely to and from Fahan School each day including a private bus service for Fahan families.

The undulating grounds with stunning views over the River Derwent offer both a peaceful atmosphere conducive to learning and a welcome distraction for times of relaxation.
