Assumption College Kilmore

Assumption College is a Catholic, Marist Brothers, co-educational day and boarding school. Since 1893 our secondary college has been providing outstanding opportunities for our students, ensuring that we cater for the diverse educational, physical, social and spiritual needs of each young person in our care.

Over the years the students of Assumption College have met with considerable success in many and varied fields of endeavour: business, science and technology, health care, education, the armed forces, the arts, religious and priestly life and sport at a state or national level.

Sense of Community

While the facilities of Assumption College are outstanding, our most tangible strength is its strong community. Our teaching and support staff are totally committed to providing the best outcomes for our students to enable each to be the best he or she can be. Our parent body, through groups such as the College Council and the Parents and Friends Association, provides ongoing support to our College.

At Assumption College, we believe that we can only seek to get the best from our students if our staff work in an open and co-operative partnership with parents. However, undoubtedly the most important feature of Assumption is its students – young men and women who seek to make a difference and who enter adulthood prepared to face the challenges ahead.

Learning

The young people of Assumption College in Years 7 and 8 are welcomed into the Montagne Centre, which is designed specifically to cater for students beginning secondary school. Structured learning spaces provide our young people with the opportunity to build their literacy and numeracy skills.

Assumption College has a vibrant electives program operating at both Years 9 and 10 that allows students to follow a particular interest for a semester or a whole year. Our young people in Year 10 also have a range of Vocational Education Training (VET) and pre Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) options open to them.

Assumption College has a broad range of VCE offerings. Many of our young people in Year 11 accelerate to take Year 12 studies.

Boarding

Kilmore is about an hour’s drive from Melbourne and has an essentially country flavour. Assumption College has always had a strong component of boarders from Melbourne and the country areas of Victoria, NSW and Tasmania.

Currently our boarding facilities provide a home away from home for boys and girls. The boarding experience is marked by a strong family spirit. Supervised study is a great attraction to prospective parents and boarders. The boarders actively participate in the College’s sporting teams, and in other co-curricular activities such as music, drama, and debating. This provides a balanced school experience that is enhanced by the richness of belonging to a boarding community.
