Our College

Laverton College P-12 is an exciting new Prep to Year 12 College that offers your child a seamless transition from the start of their schooling through to the completion.

From the start of 2009 the three campuses of Laverton College P-12 will come together on the one site located at 91 Bladin St. To ensure your child has a sense of belonging and has access to core classes and personalised academic, well being and mentoring support, the school is divided into four learning communities comprising of: Prep to Grade 4, Grades 5-7, Years 8-9 and Years 10-12.

Teaching and Learning

What students learn, how they learn and what they need from education is changing. The new facilities at Laverton College P-12 support a team teaching approach by catering to different styles of learning. From individual learning tasks to group learning activities, the spaces allow teachers to employ a variety of modern teaching methods that focus on individual needs of the students.

Teachers at Laverton College have undertaken professional development to ensure they can support students in this new environment. The teaching and learning offered by the school meets the needs of a constantly evolving student body whilst providing diverse learning pathways and applying modern teaching practices.

New Technologies

Our new buildings include the latest innovations in design and include features such as acoustic treatment, motorised highlight windows, air and light control and rainwater tanks.

Laverton College P-12 boasts twelve interactive whiteboards which allow teachers to use interactive computer software that engages students in the learning process.

The college maintains modern multimedia technology, incorporating over 100 networked computers, printers, scanners and digital cameras, including network wireless links to notebook computers.

In the course of their studies, students also have the opportunity to utilise a full range of audio-visual equipment including a sound studio and video editing studio.

Feature Programs

Our focus in 2009 will be on expanding many of our current wonderful programs and to develop new and exciting programs to improve student learning outcomes.

We have an established Vocational Education and Training program specialising in Hospitality in conjunction with Sofitel.

We facilitate a local science education network that provides an excellent robotics program to local schools.

We enjoy a strong partnership with Victoria University which allows students to design Formula 1 cars for the National Design and Innovation Challenge - a competition which saw our students design the fastest car in Australia in 2008!

We have a terrific instrumental music program including musical performances throughout the year.

Community Links

The college is being designed to allow community groups to use our facilities. From early 2009, Laverton College will boast a fantastic resource centre comprising of meeting facilities including internet access that will be made available to the whole community. The community will also continue to have access to the sporting and recreation areas as well as the established community garden.

Excellent New Facilities

Early in 2008 Stage 1 of a massive building project commenced at a cost of $5.2 million. This saw the establishment of a new Prep to 4 flexible learning space and a new Administration and Resource Centre.

In 2009 the stage 2 building program commenced at a cost of $12.5 million, which included a $1.93 million Langage Centre. Overall the school was totally rebuilt at a cost of just under $20 million.

Stage 2 will be completed ready for the 2011 school year.

Stage 2 consists of 2 flexible and open learning spaces. Stage 2 will also include Science/Manufacturing/Arts and Design building and a Performing Arts and Food Technology building.
