School Description

John Therry is a co-educational Catholic High School, founded in Marist traditions, catering for the needs of Year 7 - 12 students.

The school has wonderful facilities that complement the wide variety of learning programs that are offered. Delivering a high-quality education and challenging students to achieve personal excellence are very important priorities for the school.

Beyond the classroom, students play an active role in the Macarthur community. They give leadership and are encouraged to participate in sporting and other extra-curricular programs that enable young people to develop to their full potential.

Technology and Learning Facilities

At John Therry, we are committed to developing each student’s potential as a learner in the digital age. The entire school campus is connected to the diocesan intranet, MyDesktop and all classes regularly use this facility both as a learning tool but also for communication. Most classes have their own class page set up and all students and staff have a John Therry email address.

John Therry Catholic High School has incorporated a 1:1 laptop program in all year groups. This program has been developed to aid students in developing the key skills that will be required of them as the workforce of the future. The appropriate use of the laptop as an educational tool can enable students to increase their critical thinking and communication skills.

There are many technology access areas in the school apart from our well-equipped library.

We also have an open learning space, the size of five classrooms, which has computers all around its perimeter. This flexible learning area can be used for team teaching purposes as well as individual class delivery.

Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care of students at John Therry Catholic High School is seen as an integral part of the total School program. Each student should be treated with respect by staff members and other students. We try to reflect a 'sense of the sacred' where dignity, belonging, connectedness and self-respect are the focus.

Teachers endeavour to create this atmosphere of care in a variety of ways, both formally and informally, in their capacity as leaders, Co-ordinators, Support staff and classroom teachers. All teachers show specific care and understanding for those students who are physically, emotionally or socially disadvantaged.

The Learning mentors together with the House/Year Coordinators provide the pivotal link between home and school and are the conduit for the flow and dissemination of information regarding individual students.
Learning mentors have a special bond with students as they set the tone for each day.

They are contact persons with particular opportunities for providing care and corrective help. They conduct formal interviews with the students in their learning group, monitor the emotional, social and learning needs of the students and act as student advocates throughout the year.

Co-Curricular

Our students are encouraged to participate widely and to achieve personal excellence in co-curricular pursuits.

We have a large co-curricular program focusing upon sporting, social and cultural pursuits caters for the wide variety of interests and skills amongst the students at our school.
