‘Inspiring Young Women’ to achieve

Moorefield Girls High School is a comprehensive, culturally diverse school incorporating a support unit. It is a school where students love to come every day and are excited about their learning; where staff, students and parents work together to engage, challenge and support all students to achieve their potential. At Moorefield Girls High School, every girl is important and every school day makes a difference.

Research shows that girls’ schools continually achieve strong academic results, regularly produce real leaders and positive role models and encourage young women to explore careers in all areas because they are free to participate in class discussions without constraints and enjoy every opportunity to learn in an atmosphere of encouragement and self-belief.

Enrichment Programs

All students in Year 7 at Moorefield Girls High School complete an ICT course which runs for the whole year. This course develops their skills in using a variety of software and multimedia applications, particularly advanced features of Microsoft Office applications, film-making, vodcasting and digital art media. Specialised information literacy lessons are timetabled throughout this course where students develop and refine skills in internet research, website evaluation, selecting, organising and presenting quality information, referencing and internet safety.

At Moorefield Girls High School, gifted and talented students in Years 7 and 8 are offered programs that enriches and extends their talents by providing flexibility through individually negotiated projects using ICT. A Gifted & Talented class is established in Years 7-10.

The LEAPS program is offered to Year 9 Moorefield Girls High School students and involves the matching up of our students with mentors from the legal profession. The program acquaints students with the corporate workplace and develops their understanding of the expectations of employers and their ability to set goals and plan for their futures.

Moorefield Girls High School offers a broad ranging curriculum from all subject areas. Our Creative and Performing Arts and Technological and Applied Studies modern specialised facilities provide an excellent environment for learning.

Vocation Education is fostered through close links with business partners and tertiary institutions. The Year 12 Careers Education Program assists students with their career planning, and with making a successful transition from school to further study or work.

Moorefield Girls High School has a Special Education Unit at Moorefield Girls with a cohesive and experienced staff of teachers who support students with identified diverse educational needs. Our Learning Support Team manages the learning of students who require additional assistance in mainstream classrooms.

The school operates a homework and study centre after school.

IT Facilities

Students’ IT skills are developed and refined at Moorefield Girls High School to assist them to navigate a world of rapidly changing technology and information inundation. An online learning system, MOODLE, has been adopted to provide students with curriculum content in a dynamic and engaging manner. This application is available 24/7 and can be accessed from any location worldwide. It is quite similar to online learning systems currently in place in Australian Universities providing our students with a technological edge for future studies.

The classrooms at Moorefield Girls High School are fitted either with digital projectors and smart boards to make lessons more engaging and interactive by increasing the use of technology in teaching and learning activities. Students are provided with an extensive range of hardware and are given access to up-to-date software that is both creative and current. We have a schoolwide wireless network to support the DER roll out of laptops to all students from Years 9 – 12. In addition to this, in 2013, all Year 7 students have also been involved in a laptop program.

Extra-Curricular and Leadership

Moorefield Girls High School offers a wide variety of clubs and activities encouraging students to realise their potential and develop their leadership skills. The Prefect body and Student Representative Council undertake leadership training that helps strengthen their role in the school and wider community.

The Environment Team’s aim is to promote environmental education amongst the school community and to improve sustainability practices. A few of their numerous projects include Clean Up Australia Day, Earth Hour, Tree Planting and World Environment Day.

PDHPE/Sport

Students at Moorefield Girls High School learn about issues such as community health, active lifestyles, the body, drug safety education, first aid, body image and personal identity. The main goal is for students not only to gain the many physical, psychological and social benefits associated with sports participation, but also to have an enjoyable experience and encourage a lifelong healthy lifestyle.

Facilities at Moorefield Girls High School include a gymnasium featuring an indoor basketball court, two outdoor basketball courts and an outdoor soccer field. Elective classes are offered through to the HSC and a sporting talent identification program has commenced in 2013.
