PHILOSOPHY

The aim of Northern Beaches Secondary College is to be a school of excellence, allowing students the freedom to learn through choice, so that they achieve their personal best.
We educate students in Years 11 and 12. Students are at all times engaged in learning activities designed to be relevant, challenging, stimulating and achievable.

Northern Beaches Secondary College instills a work ethic and a set of values which will give students the edge for their future studies and careers.

In an uncomplicated learning environment, the focus of the campus is on taking advantage of the unique opportunities provided by a senior learning culture.
Northern Beaches Secondary College provides students with the widest possible curriculum choices including a comprehensive range of academically challenging HSC subjects and an extensive range of TAFE courses.

Students can select from over 80 courses.
On-site TAFE facilities give students access to specialist courses in Web Design, Digital Arts, Tourism, Sport and Recreation and Child Studies.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Northern Beaches Secondary College welcomes international students who wish to complete their HSC and gain admission to Australian universities and colleges. Eligible international students can select English as a Second Language for their HSC and choose from a wide curriculum.

Northern Beaches Secondary College Senior Campus caters for students who wish to do extension courses in Mathematics I and II and in all Science subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth and Environment. Business Studies, Economics, Geography and Legal Studies also provide many international students with an attractive pathway to university courses in the business sector.

International students have achieved outstanding HSC results while studying at Northern Beaches Secondary College Senior Campus and gained entry to prestigious degree courses. In 2008 Yeyun (Davidson) Shen, an international student at Freshwater Senior Campus gained a UAI of 98.1. He is now at Macquarie University enrolled in Bachelor Of Commerce (Actuarial Studies) combined with Bachelor of Law.

MENTORING PROGRAM

All students at Northern Beaches Secondary College participate in a weekly timetabled Mentoring Program which supports our young adults both academically and socially. Encouraging, motivating and teaching planning and organisational skills to students, to ensure they achieve a personal best, are key essentials of the Mentoring Program.

CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS INCLUDING SPORT

Freshwater Senior Campus at Northern Beaches Secondary College offers a range of co-curricular programs including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Rock Eisteddfodd Program.

A three tiered sporting program is offered to students. Inter school grade sport and school sport are available. Targeted squads in soccer, rugby league, netball and basketball are supported. Students are also able to compete in college teams which include representatives from all five campuses of the Northern Beaches Secondary College.

TECHNOLOGY WHICH IS STATE-OF-THE-ART

The technology provisions at Northern Beaches Secondary College are world class and we have negotiated an agreement with TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute for the provision and maintenance of our technology infrastructure.

SPECIALIST FACILITIES

Facilities at the Northern Beaches Secondary College campus are spectacular. They include general learning spaces including seminar and break-out rooms adapted to meet the needs of senior students. A 250 seat Performance Theatre, national standard gymnasium and music centre with adjoining practice rooms position us to provide a breadth of quality learning experiences for our students.

Facilities at Northern Beaches Secondary College include: a national standard gymnasium, 100 seat lecture theatre, multi-media centre, integrated studies unit, design and creative arts facilities and modern science and hospitality facilities. The professional performance theatre with raked seating for 250, gives students the opportunity to develop skills in both front and back of house production.

The Freshwater Senior Campus provides an educational opportunity not previously available to students on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Students can take advantage of state-of-the-art facilities, on-site course provision through the TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute and the opportunity to access first year courses through our partnership with the University of Technology, Sydney. Students can participate in the unique experience of engaging in a senior learning environment.

Outstanding Chemistry Success

Congratulations to Frank Jia who won a Silver Medal at this years International Science Olympics. Frank was selected for the Australian team going to the Chemistry Olympiad in Cambridge, UK.  Frank competed with 400 other students from around the world.
