Sydney Girls High School is an academically selective state school located in Surry Hills in the Centennial Parklands. The school was established in 1883 and is the oldest state girls school in New South Wales.

An important part of the charter of Sydney Girls High School has always been to develop the leadership talents of gifted girls. Students take on a variety of leadership roles, including Prefects, Peer Support Leaders, SRC Leaders, Co-curricular Captains/ Vice-Captains, House Captains/Vice-Captains and SGHS Ambassadors. The school is also involved in a number of leadership initiatives, such as Model United Nations, NSW Youth Parliament, Australian Constitutional Conference and the Social Justice Network Conference. The school promotes student leadership through our SGHS Leadership Scheme, which encourages students to undertake community and school service and participate actively in the co-curricular life of the school to develop as well-rounded and committed students.
Talents of Sydney Girls High School students both past and present are remarkable. Among the current alumni are the NSW Governor; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology, Sydney; a Federal Court judge; members of the federal and state parliaments, well-known authors, social researchers, lawyers, educators and medical professionals.
