The Athena School is an independent, co-educational school, which provides a nurturing learning environment for students from Prep through to Year 6 in our Primary School and High School to Year 10, while being educated in accordance with NESA. We deliver the Montessori program in our Prep class.
The Athena School was founded in 1987 by a group of dedicated parents using the study methods of Mr. L. Ron Hubbard. Today we operate with a dedicated team of trained and experienced teachers and administrative staff who are also trained in Mr Hubbard's study tools. |

Whilst not promoting any particular religious philosophy, The Athena School encourages the recognition of our spiritual nature. We put importance on developing such virtues as kindness, tolerance and respect. Students are guided by the non-religious moral code "How to Make Good Choices". |

Our approach is friendly and caring and works to develop in the students a passion for learning.
To achieve this, we provide smaller classes with a lower teacher/student ratio and more personalised attention.
The Athena School's educational focus is on developing the student's individual talents and encouraging an enquiring mind.
Students at The Athena School are introduced to a simple, practical method of study from their early school years. By the time they arrive in High School they are able to use this method of study to investigate and research any topic of interest. Furthermore, this method of study results in the students truly understanding what they have learned, so they can put their knowledge to practical use in the workaday world. |

Our Quality Assurance department is a truly unique aspect of the school, which allows us to ensure students fully and completely understand what they are studying.
When a student finishes a test or course, they might ordinarily achieve 85% or even 90%, which would be a pass. However, that means there is still 10-15% of the subject that they don't fully understand, or are not quite familiar with. That is what Quality Assurance addresses.
Through the course of one's school years, a student goes through countless such tests, and ends up leaving behind an accumulation of things they didn't fully get.
Rather than just leave them with question marks, we check over the areas that they didn't fully get, and ensure that these are properly understood before continuing!
In this way, no student is left behind, or slips through the cracks. There is no stigma attached to Quality Assurance and our students love the fact that they complete every piece of work at 100%.
Quality Assurance also interviews all students before they enroll with us to best ensure how we can help them succeed in their studies. Through assessment, strengths and weaknesses are discovered, and then a program is created that can best assist the student at the school.
Some students excel in particular subjects. In this case, Quality Assurance would ensure that they continue to be challenged while still remaining with their class.
Conversely, if a student arrives to us needing some extra attention in any subject, Quality Assurance would oversee this while they continued to study in their class environment. |

All the students at The Athena School participate in excursions on a weekly basis. Whether it's to the museum, the library, a science fair, or to a sporting venue like soccer, swimming or AFL.
We encourage excursions as this cultivates a firm understanding of the world, the many different activities students can be a part of, as well as giving them strong skills for life.
