Our School

The school mission is to create an intellectually challenging and supportive learning environment, which realises the individual capacity and self-worth of all.
Our teachers will:
• Demonstrate a passion for learning and teaching in a productive environment focused on developing skills and understanding for lifelong learning;

Bonnyrigg High School is set in extensive grounds with an assembly hall, gymnasium, cricket nets, three sports fields, basketball and netball courts. All play areas are spacious with sufficient sunsafe coverings. All classrooms have been renovated, including: the Library, which has a Technology Learning Centre. The school has four well-equipped Technology and Applied Studies units, five Science Laboratories, four Visual Arts rooms, two Music Rooms, a Kiln for Ceramics, a Photography darkroom and three Computer Laboratories.
The School has strong literacy and numeracy programs and offers special programs for gifted and talented students, students from non-English-speaking backgrounds and students who need learning assistance.
The average class size at Bonnyrigg is 25. The teacher:pupil ratio is approximately 1:14.
About 80% of students in Year 7 go on to complete Year 12, of whom 70% choose to undertake university or TAFE studies.
Bonnyrigg High School has an effective Student Welfare Policy with students being supported by both the Learning Support and Welfare Teams. Student behaviour standards are supported by the Student Responsibility (“Time Out”) Program, which is implemented across the school.
The school has a Parent and Community Co-ordinator available to assist parents and carers in understanding their child’s “learning process”.
Bonnyrigg High School is a “uniform” school and has full community support.

Content-Endorsed Courses - (ie: those that do not count towards UAI): Ceramics (1U and 2U), Photography, Video & Digital Media (1U and 2U), Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation (1U and 2U), Work Studies (1U)
TAFE-Delivered Board-Developed VET Courses - (240 hours - maximum of 2 Units may be included in UAI): Accounting, Electronics Technology, Metal and Engineering, Primary Industries, Tourism. Other TAFE courses are available.

Sports

Years 7 & 8 - Integrated Sport Competition including Touch Football, Netball, Soccer, Cricket, European Handball, Table Tennis, Oz Tag, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball and Hockey. All students compete in area Gala Days.
Years 9 & 10 - Grade sport competitions including Touch Football, Netball, Soccer, Cricket, European Handball, Table Tennis, Oz Tag, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball and Hockey.
Year 11 - Integrated Sport including Touch Football, Netball, Soccer, Cricket, European Handball, Table Tennis, Oz Tag, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball and Hockey, Aerobics, Tennis, Squash, Weight Training, Ten Pin Bowling, Snooker and Golf.
Other sports integrated into the Physical Education Program include AFL, Athletics, Badminton, Creative Dance, Gymnastics, Rugby League and Rugby Union, Swimming.
Students compete in regional and state competitions in all major sports.
School Carnivals: Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.

Extracurricular Activities

Computer Facilities

The school is a fully networked school with Windows XP, with three dedicated Computer Laboratories. The technology based Library Resource area boasts 15 CD-rom drives in the Research and Publishing Facility. Online services include Office XP, Internet Connection,
E-mail facilities and school based Intranet. The school uses computers to support effective learning.
