Aitkenvale State School is a well established school with a long history of excellence and achievement in the Townsville community. It is centrally located in the suburbs on the corner of Nathan and Wotton Streets opposite Centro Plaza and near Stockland Shopping Complex. The school caters for students in Prep through to Year 7 and currently has an enrolment of 472 students. |

Aitkenvale is a well-resourced school constantly updating materials to meet the needs and challenges of teaching and learning in the modern world. The library which is accessible at lunch times provides many resources including books, computers, games and a courtyard for activities. All classrooms in the school are fully airconditioned. For working parents there is before and after school care and vacation care facilities available. All programs are well developed and resourced. |

At Aitkenvale State School all the key learning areas set out by Education Queensland are addressed and assessed. The school has excellent learning support programs in place as well as providing support for students who have English as a second language. Gifted and talented students are acknowledged and whole school activities are provided, catering for student's special talents, interests and abilities. Instrumental music programs are also available for students. Attached to the school is a Defence Force Teacher Aide who works closely with defence force students and their families. There are two computer rooms set up in the school to allow for whole class lessons and access by all students. Students also have access to computers in their classrooms. All computers are fully networked. |

Aitkenvale school embraces a whole school approach to behaviour management through its "School Wide Positive Behaviour" program which encourages students to "Be an achiever, Be respectful and Be safe. Complementing this philosophy is a well structured playground program with students having separate play areas that are well resourced with inside and outside equipment, large shade structures, trees and seating. Along with this the school is registered as a "Sunsmart School" and actively works towards making students aware of the dangers of living and working in the tropics. |

The school also boasts other special features including a twenty-five metre swimming pool in which the students receive instruction in Terms One and Four. There is also a "Learnscape Garden" as part of our Reef Guardian Program, which is maintained by the students. Units of work have been developed to integrate the garden into all learning areas. |
