Our school teaches many important values. Our official school motto “Recte Crescam” means, “I shall grow tall, straight and true”. We also hold true to Walt Disney’s famous quote, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. Across the years we have been inspired by creative catchphrases such as “Soar in ‘04”, “Great in ‘08” and “Shine in ‘09”. Our school song also reflects the strength of our school spirit and contains profound wisdom and inspiration.
Most recently, our school values have been updated to incorporate “PRIDE”: Participation, Relationships, Integrity, Diligence and Enthusiasm. These values are taught to and respected by every student and staff member as they define and guide our learning experiences.
But there are two important aspects that are not revealed by these mottos, catchphrases and songs. These two unique attributes cannot be truly understood until you experience Harristown, because they are at the heart of everything we do and learn.
The first of these is Opportunity. There are boundless opportunities at Harristown State High School across many different fields. Our students excel in a range of sports at regional, state and national levels, in arts and cultural events such as drama productions, Rock Eisteddfods and musical festivals and in academic sectors such as scholarships, debating and speech competitions. Whether a student is passionate about environmental awareness, upholding a leadership position, celebrating multiculturalism or sharing their unique artistic abilities, there is always an opportunity to follow your passion at Harristown State High School.
The second key aspect of life at Harristown State High School is our famous Hawk Spirit. It bonds us as a school community, creates a network of support and is the foundation on which we learn, live and interact. Hawk Spirit does not only come alive at inter-house carnivals and competitions, its presence is strongly felt by all Hawks at all times. Described by our former School Captain, Ashleigh Cook as “a bond of pride and collective achievement; an awe-inspiring vibe”: the Hawk Spirit is integral to life at Harristown State High School.
And while Opportunity and Hawk Spirit are not a part of any motto, catchphrase or song, they are two of the most amazing aspects of Harristown State High School. They are the two aspects that we are most proud of and we welcome you whole-heartedly to be a part of them. |
