Excellence in Education

The Kooralbyn International School strives to foster excellence in academic, artistic and sporting achievement through its focus on building strong academic and developmental foundations in Primary School, its Specialised University Preparation Program in High School, its Mastery Programs in sporting and artistic pathways and its focus on high standards in dress, attitude, goal-setting and respect.

History of High Achievers

Throughout its history, The Kooralbyn International School has strived to be a school dedicated to excellence in both academic and sporting pursuits. This can be demonstrated by the amazing number of state and national representatives and successful graduates of The Kooralbyn International School.

The Kooralbyn International School is the only school in Australia to have produced two 'Young Australian Of The Year' recipients (Olympian Cathy Freeman and scientist Scott Hocknull). In 2007, the school graduated Michael Kelly, who at 12 years of age, was the youngest student ever to be officially enrolled as a full-time student at an Australian university. At the 2011 US Masters golf tournament, two young Australian golfers, Adam Scott and Jason Day were vying for the championship lead and both were former Kooralbyn International School students and former members of the school's world-famous Golf Mastery program.

School Ethos

The Kooralbyn International School's mission is to provide an environment in which our students are ignited by a passion to succeed, a hunger to learn and desire to share the experience with classmates who will become life-long friends.

Early Years schooling at The Kooralbyn International School is all about play and discovery and building confidence. As each school year progresses, we begin to expect and demand slightly more of our students, until by the time they are completing their senior years of schooling, we are dealing with self-motivated, independent problem-solvers; respectful young men and women who have developed the habits of success and the skills of leadership, who are prepared for anything today's competitive world can throw at them.

Specialised University Preparation Program

The Kooralbyn International School features a Specialised University Preparation Program. The minimum age of entry is 11 years and maximum age of entry is 18 years (entering Grade 11).

Students participating in The Kooralbyn International School university program enjoy longer school days, have an increased work load, with a focus on Maths-Science-English and an objective of not only getting its students into their chosen university course, but also improving their chances of success once they get there.

There is a doubling of classroom time in the core subject areas of English, Maths and Sciences, which makes a huge difference in terms of individual student outcomes.

Specialised after-school classes and (for Mid-Week Boarders) evening tutorials are held, providing test practices, maths labs, assessment workshops and supervised homework sessions.

Mastery Programs

Mastery Programs are OPTIONAL programs offered by The Kooralbyn International School to provide specialised instruction and participation in a specific discipline. They are offered within normal school time and often also outside normal school time.

Generally speaking, the Mastery Programs will have a career path objective. For example, our current Mastery Programs cover disciplines like Golf, Equestrian, Aviation, Athletics, Swimming, Drama, Music and Tennis. These are for students who may have an ambition to pursue a career in the respective disciplines.

Boarding

The Kooralbyn International School's boarding facilities are open to students from Years 7 to 12. The majority of our boarders are local Australians, but many are from countries in Europe and Asia.

Apart from its excellent reputation in food and pastoral care, one of the greatest advantages of boarding at The Kooralbyn International School is its safety/security aspect. Being located in a healthy, rural setting, there are no local shopping malls, gangs, violence or other distractions or concerns for our students. Students who would benefit from a regular routine, positive supervision, good discipline and the opportunity to develop their social skills in a small 'global village' atmosphere are likely to flourish here.
