Groves Christian College - Distance Education

Welcome to Distance Education (DE) at Groves

‘At Groves, we help our students to enjoy a full life now, and into eternity through developing their gifts and talents to serve and positively influence others. Our education is designed to help students discover the truth about God, themselves, people and the world. This equips and inspires our students to be better prepared to serve their families, communities, country and the wider world, to God’s glory and for the wellbeing of others’ - Allan Weir (Executive Principal).

Authentic Schooling at Home

Australia is an amazing country where we are free to think and learn from a Christian perspective. We are blessed in our land to have authorities that provide purposeful funding towards our ability to school children through Christian distance education.
Ensuring our academic standards and delivery of service are equal to this blessing is one we take seriously. Our authority approved programs enable authentic schooling at home.
For some, ‘at home’ may mean on the road travelling around Australia for an extended family holiday or maintaining schooling while working around training schedules or health issues, etc. If your normal home base is in Queensland then we can help you achieve.

DE Athletes for Prep-Year 2

This year, Distance Education students from the ‘Foundation Phase' participated in the Athletics Carnival at Campus 1, enjoying races, games and other physical activities.
The students interacted with their peers, enlarging their friendship circles, displaying social skills and teamwork.

DE Excursions for Years 3-6

Our recent 'Intermediate Phase’ visit to Beenleigh Historical Village was a journey back in time, offering students a unique glimpse into the past, including a tour of an old school, where we delved into historical learning styles and discipline methods, as well as learning about the transportation methods children used to get to school a century ago, adding a rich context to their understanding of history. The experience was historically educational and enjoyable, demonstrating the power of immersive learning.

DE Digital Technologies for Years 7-9

In our Term 4 rotational subjects, students from our ‘Middle Phase’ (Year 7-9) will complete a nine-week Digital Technologies course:
- Year 7 students will be focus on designing and constructing a bridge strong enough to carry a remote-controlled vehicle and be limited to using paddle pop sticks and glue. Design projects such as this help students develop a critical understanding of the impact of design and technology on daily life and the wider world.
-Year 8 Students will learn the basics about Blockly visual programming and create a maze game for their friends and families to play. Through the use of technology, students’ roles as digital citizens will be reinforced. In addition, it will teach them how to navigate the digital world responsibly.
- Year 9s will have fun exploring Excel spreadsheets. They will use sales data to calculate total costs and analyse the results.
