Founded by Mayfield Baptist Church in 1981, Hunter Christian School was one of the earliest Christian schools in the Hunter region.
Since this time we have developed a reputation in the community for providing excellence in education.
This proven academic track record at Hunter Christian School has been achieved by implementing innovative teaching programs that inspire students to learn, while in an environment that genuinely cares for the whole child and empowers them to apply their learning in the community and throughout their life beyond school.
Hunter Christian School provides first class facilities. Primary and Secondary classes have access to a well resourced library. Computer and Information Technology is integrated into every class and there are well equipped specialty classrooms, science and technology rooms. Many classrooms have Smart Board Technology.
The Christian principles upon which Hunter Christian School is based give students guidance and values. Students are encouraged to speak honestly with kindness, fairness and love and to have the courage to present the truth and confront injustice. At Hunter Christian School authority is valued and the feelings of others are respected.
At Hunter Christian School we want to provide children with the best possible start to school. We are now offering a Preparatory (or “Prep”) school program for four year olds in the year prior to Kindergarten, providing children with the easiest transition possible into their school life.
Prep is a structured pre-kindergarten experience for 4 year olds in a carefully planned environment. The qualified early childhood teachers at Hunter Christian School engage the children in a literacy and numeracy rich setting. Involvement in school activities such as Chapel and special events as well as access to the school library assist in the transition to Kindergarten.
Kindergarten to Year 6 are critical for laying the foundational skills that will serve children for the rest of their lives. The committed and experienced staff at Hunter Christian School place emphasis on literacy and numeracy. There is a focus on early intervention in addressing issues that affect a child’s learning. There are computer workstations in every classroom as well as a dedicated IT classroom for primary classes.
Hunter Christian School also provide an effective and structured approach to addressing the pastoral needs of our students. Our primary department runs the very successful BOUNCE BACK program which instils in our students important skills and strategies to become more resilient young people.
Show What You Know is another special program where children put into practise acts of kindness. Each class at Hunter Christian School has adopted a group or organisation to care for over the year, practically showing their support in ways such as letter writing, prayer, fund raising or visitation.
Hunter Christian School enjoys a very good academic record in both School Certificate and HSC examinations. Our small class sizes ensure that our students receive individual attention.
There is a wide range of subjects offered in the senior years at Hunter Christian School, including an HSC approved Metal and Engineering course.
In addition to the academic subjects, Hunter Christian School offers Secondary students a variety of programs that promote physical activity, community service and even optional travel to visit remote Australian and overseas missions.
Primary and Secondary students at Hunter Christian School are offered a variety of opportunities to develop their abilities in an environment that fosters and values creativity. Specialist teachers teach Creative Art, and there are regular opportunities for students to display their work through presentations and performances held at special assemblies and events including a school musical.
Sporting opportunities are made readily available for students to compete in a variety of sports from Zone to State levels.
