Columba Catholic College has been providing exceptional education for over 140 years. The Prep – Year 12 College offers contemporary facilities across two campuses and a curriculum that focuses on competencies such as connection, collaboration, entrepreneurial thinking, and a growth mindset.
At Columba, students are driven by a sense of purpose to be the best they can be, embracing the many opportunities available to them to achieve a balance between their academic, social, spiritual, sporting and cultural pursuits.
Pastoral Care plays a central role at Columba Catholic College, underscoring the school’s commitment to educating the whole person in the Catholic tradition. It encompasses the personal, spiritual, social, physical, intellectual, and cultural development of each student. This holistic approach ensures that every individual in the school community is supported, fostering a sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing.
By cultivating a nurturing environment, the College encourages students to experience success in various facets of their lives. This includes not only academic achievement but also personal growth and the development of strong interpersonal relationships.
Through Pastoral Care, Columba promotes the values of compassion, respect, and community, helping students to thrive both within and beyond the classroom.
Our College endeavours to deliver a holistic and well-balanced curriculum that provides students with opportunities to develop and grow academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. This comprehensive approach to education reflects the College’s commitment to nurturing the whole person, ensuring that each student is supported in their individual journey.
While Years 7-10 students follow the Australian Curriculum, students in Years 11 and 12 are offered a range of subjects to select from that provide various pathways to further study and careers. Students may embark on an academic program that prepares them for tertiary entrance, or they may access a vocational pathway that includes school-based apprenticeships, traineeships, and certificate courses.
Students are afforded an extensive offering of co-curricular activities to grow their spiritual, social, sporting, and cultural gifts. These activities are designed to complement the academic curriculum and provide holistic development opportunities that align with the College's values.
The College offers a wide range of academic, sporting, and cultural activities, including School productions/musicals, Camps/Reflection Days, Catholic Schools Rugby League and Netball Carnival, Debating, Optiminds, Academic Competitions, Chess Club, Cattle Club, Athletics Development Program, Senior Formal, Debutante Ball, and more.
Boarding at Columba Catholic College provides students with the opportunity to grow up with peers their own age and interact with a variety of adults whose life experiences, pastoral care, and professional training enable them to provide constant, safe, and nurturing care.
The boarding experience is designed to foster independence, resilience, and personal growth, all while ensuring students feel supported in a caring and inclusive environment.
Girls live at St Mary's campus which is closer to the city of Charters Towers. The campus is beautifully landscaped, there's a pool and garden area which is very relaxing, and the accommodation boasts a modern boarding facility with plenty of space for students to find their spot in boarding.
Boys live at Mt Carmel campus with its myriad of sporting facilities, open spaces, a working farm, and boarding facilities which are as good as any in Queensland. Both campuses provide computing facilities, and students are welcome to bring their own laptops.
