Welcome to Staines Memorial College is a non-denominational Christian College located in Redbank Plains, Ipswich. We cater for Kindergarten to Year 12 students from a variety of Christian backgrounds and traditions. We also welcome families who, though not necessarily Christian themselves, desire a Christian school culture and educational experience for their children.
Teaching for Learning is our core responsibility. Our vision is to deliver at least one year's growth in learning for every student, every school year, and to encourage students' to strive for their personal best. Teaching for Learning at our College includes the content of lessons, how we teach, what we model and how we treat each other. We believe that strong relationships are central to the learning process. Students who feel safe and supported are more likely to perform at their personal best.
We recognise that each child is an individual, with different God-given talents that need to be nurtured by providing opportunities for growth spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. We seek to provide a safe and supportive environment where students are nurtured and encouraged to explore, develop and excel.
In Foundation to Year 10 these skills are embedded in the General Capabilities of Literacy, Numeracy, ICT Capability, Critical and Creative Thinking, Personal and Social Capability, Ethical and Intercultural Understanding.
In our Senior Years, the underpinning factors embedded within each Subject Area include Critical and Creative Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Team Work and Personal and Social Skills.
SMC Academy is a place where students of Staines Memorial College and community members are invited to take co-curricular instrumental lessons, mostly in school hours, on campus with qualified private tutors authorised by the college.
We offer lessons in Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Voice, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Drums.
Our desire is to provide students with a range of options during breaks. Lunch Time Clubs provide opportunities for students to develop their social skills around topics of interest.
We run a variety of clubs each week that may include: Lego Club, Prayer Groups, Dance Club, Junior & Secondary Choir, Sewing Club, Art Club, and the Chapel Band.
Staines Memorial College encourages students to participate in sport wherever possible, whether it be as part of a team or as an individual. Staines recognises the values, skills and attributes that students can learn by being involved in sporting opportunities.
Staines’ sports promote sportsmanship, team spirit as well as health and fitness. Through various avenues students at Staines can progress to District (Central Comets), Regional (Met West), State (Queensland) and National (Australia) representative honours.
Students from Years 3-12 are able to nominate themselves for the sporting teams offered.
